Respiratory Drug Delivery Europe 2007 - In Review

Respiratory Drug Delivery Europe 2007 was held at the Novotel Paris Tour Eiffel, Paris, France, April 17-20 2007.  This was the same venue we used for RDD Europe 2005, but working with our meeting partners, Pfeiffer and Valois Pharma, we engineered the meeting space to accommodate over 370 participants. Sadly, this more than 25% increase in capacity over 2005 was not enough to house all who wanted to attend, and meeting registration closed in February when we ran out of space. Obviously, we are looking for a bigger hotel for RDD Europe 2009, and sincerely apologize to those who could not join us despite our best efforts.  

Meeting participants came from 19 countries, with the majority from Europe and US. We were a diverse group of Scientists (32%), Senior Scientists (17%), Sales, Marketing & Business professionals (26%), CEOs & Managing Directors (11%), Process & Packaging technologists (13%), Regulators (1 %) and Recruiters (1%) representing academia, government, and the pharmaceutical industry. RDD Europe 2007 continued our tradition of showcasing the latest advances in pulmonary and nasal drug delivery in a variety of formal and social activities designed to promote networking and scientific exchange.

RDD Europe 2007 benefited from outstanding speakers who shared insights into a range of scientific, medical and commercial topics related to nasal and pulmonary drug  delivery. Podium sessions featured emerging new classes of aerosolized drugs, tomorrow’s products and the impact and implementation of the ‘Quality by Design’ initiative in the USA. Other sessions focused on new device development, controversies surrounding nasal drug delivery, and insights into powder behavior in airstreams.

The regulatory session focused on the perennially challenging topic of ‘Achieving and Demonstrating Equivalence - Scientific, Regional and Global Challenges’. We are grateful for the hard work put in by all our invited, industry, government and academic speakers. A greatly expanded Workshop Session was organized by Pfeiffer and Valois Pharma and more than 80 Table Exhibitions and Scientific Posters kept participants busy between podium presentations.

Even if you were unable to attend RDD Europe 2007, you can search the database or order a copy of the proceedings online to see what you missed. Over almost 20 years RDD proceedings have become a critical, peer-reviewed resource for anyone interested in pulmonary and nasal drug delivery.  The organizers thank all our presenters, exhibitors, and sponsors for their contribution to RDD Europe 2007, and we look forward to meeting you all again at Respiratory Drug Delivery 2008 at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, in Scottsdale, Arizona, May 11-15, 2008.
